The vessel is now in a naval shipyard in Cavite to undergo machinery and equipment maintenances.

“Once it becomes operational, it will boost our troop transport support and HADR (humanitarian and disaster response) capability,” Millan said.

South Korea also vowed to provide a Pohang-class corvette to the Philippines, a development seen as a sign of the two countries’ growing defense cooperation.

Philippines earlier signed a PhP18.9 billion with South Korean Aerospace Industries for the delivery of 12 FA-50 jets.

First two are expected to be delivered on December.

this is a morale booster... we can now have more ability to support our troops particularly those in the disputed areas in the west philippine sea... can't wait for the fa-50...
