Binay Vs. Trillanes Debate A No-Go?
« on: November 11, 2014, 03:46:58 am »
Vice-President Jejomar Binay has withdrawn from a televised debate with Senator Antonio Trillanes.

The debate was supposed to take place on November 27, with the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) overseeing the event. Binay said that he was backing out because he didn't want to make it seem as if his background as a lawyer would give him an unfair edge over Trillanes.

Binay challenged Trillanes to a public debate last month as the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee composed of Sen. Trillanes, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, and Sen. Koko Pimentel (the subcommittee chairman) was investigating the supposed overpricing of the Makati City Hall Building II. The Vice-President was invited to shed light on matters but refused to appear before the subcommittee and repeatedly questioned the subcommittee's jurisdiction.

The KBP said it has yet to receive any formal notice from Binay's camp that he was withdrawing from the debate. KBP president Herman Basbaño said they would respect the Vice-President's decision but still hoped that the face-off with Trillanes would push through.

Trillanes, for his part, said that backing out of the debate will take a toll on Binay's credibility. He added that he was still willing to meet the Vice-President if he should change his mind.

im no pro or againts vp binay..but if someone accused me of stealing,,i'll face it head one, whoever, whenever or wherever it may be..,hindi ko makakaya na lumipas ang isang araw na di kami magkakaharap...i will not hide away or shield myself to be defended by other..it pretty much tells you what kind of man you are..the debate should have been the defining moment for binay to once and for all  clear his name, make a statement and push back any allegation being thrown toward him..
kung ang isang dating sundalo na di naman abogado eh inatrasan,.paano pa ang libo libong problema ng bansa natin pag president na sya.aatras din ba?

A month before the much-awaited debate between Vice-Pres. Binay and Sen. Trillanes, Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco already declared that Binay's decision to confront Trillanes in public was an unwise move.

Tiangco--who is also the interim president of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA)--stated that the Ombudsman and not the Senate was where the Vice-President should face the allegations of corruption leveled against him. However, he clarified that he was confident that Binay would easily be able to acquit himself before the public but feared that the debate would inevitably be rendered meaningless by Trillanes' propensity for lying.

Now that the Vice-President has chosen not to go through with the debate, an elated Rep. Tiangco said that the people preferred to see Binay hard at work solving the nation's problems rather than wasting time on debates.

Meanwhile, Senator Nancy Binay called her father's decision not to face Trillanes an "answered prayer". Despite Trillanes' attempt to portray the Vice-President as having an unfair advantage due to his legal and political experience, Sen. Binay pointed out that her father was the "real underdog" because he's already been prejudged during the subcommittee hearings.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla chimed in with his opinion on the debate, calling it a "disservice" to the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda who were still struggling to rebuild their lives a year after the disaster.

Remulla, the Vice-President's spokesperson for political affairs, said that Binay would much rather pour his time into relief efforts for the Yolanda survivors, particularly with regards to housing.

Gov. Remulla further dubbed Trillanes as the "Yolanda" of the Senate and a man who has spent his entire life destroying whatever lay in his path.

first of all i am not siding with anybody in this since i am a believer of the saying that a man is innocent unless proven guilty.. since sen. trillanes is confident that they have a case, why don't they just file the case in court so that hopefully the truth will come out and the guilty answer for the wrongdoing if it was proven... millions are being spent from this hearings while there are far more important issues to be attended to by the senate... let the court decide and give the verdict... release all the facts and evidences and if our court will give a fair and impartial ruling then let us respect it whatever it may be...
