Cyrano De Bergerac And Much Ado About Nothing
« on: September 24, 2014, 02:40:44 pm »
Ladies and gentlemen of the Espiya Republic, it has been a while since I made a contribution to our great and wondrous library. Permit me then--though Valentine's Day is five months or so away--to share two romances, both of which I hold in high esteem.

First up is Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac. Next to Romeo and Juliet, this may well be one of the most popular romantic tragedies in literature. It tells the tale of the prideful yet noble soldier Cyrano who is hopelessly in love with his cousin, the beauteous and witty Roxane. Roxane, in turn, is in love with the dashingly handsome Christian who is, unfortunately, lacking Cyrano's eloquence and flair.

On a somewhat lighter note, we have William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. This particular work is regarded as one of Shakespeare's most well-loved romantic comedies. This story revolves around two couples: Claudio and Hero (who are quite smitten with one another) and Beatrice and Benedick (who openly despise one another).
