Two days ago, the English-language newspaper Global Times published an editorial claiming that the recent spate of crimes in Metro Manila (among other places) is deliberately targeted at Chinese. The editorial traced the crime wave to "Philippine nationalism" and "anti-China sentiment" and called for stronger government response -- along with a public apology from President Noynoy Aquino for the continued danger to Chinese in the Philippines.

By way of response, Secretary Edwin Lacierda said yesterday during a press briefing at Malacañang that there was no proof that Chinese were being singled out by criminals in the Philippines. He also stressed that the country had been quite welcoming of Chinese nationals, despite tensions regarding territories in the West Philippine Sea.

I see this as a precursor for china to clamp down on Filipinos in their place.  Filipinos there should be very careful since China is really taking things personally.

nah, they are just looking for cassus belli to grab the spratlys.

sandamakmak ang tsinoy dito. "deliberately targeted"? bullshit.  smoking::

look at the friggin article. it doesn't have a byline. another move by chinese propagandists as "moral justification".

it's just a matter of time before the philippines be involved n a regional conflict. kawawa ang mga tsinoy pag nangyari yun. and with america pussyfooting until it's too late (a bad form of "divide and conquer"), durog ang current system ng pinas afterwards, and i doubt it will be replaced with something better....
