I hate this country

Let me say it: I hate this country.

I hate how most of the politicians running this country are idiots, are corrupt, or both. I hate how many of this country’s citizens continue to vote for the same incompetent characters every election. I hate that votes can easily be bought from our countrymen because they have so little to begin with.

I hate how our “leaders” continue to take advantage of the people and our taxes. I hate how such “leaders” pocketed the aid money that was intended for the victims of Tropical Storm “Sendong.” I hate how illegal logging was responsible for the deaths of more than a thousand people during the same tropical storm. I hate how corruption lets activities like illegal logging keep on happening.

I hate how my hard-earned taxes go to the Louis Vuitton bags of people like the supposed mastermind of the pork barrel scam. I hate how only an elite few control the levers of power in this country and forget to take care of the other 80-million-plus people living in the same space. I hate how a few centuries ago, we were a proud and strong race, but are now reduced to being servants of all—caregivers and nurses in countries outside our own.

I hate having an inefficient transportation system. I hate having to wait almost forever just to get inside a cramped train filled with the body odors of passengers from all walks of life. I hate having to stand in a bus that moves recklessly on the highways of Manila and whose passengers have to hang on for dear life.

I hate having to endure endless traffic. I hate having roads that are always “under repair” when the election campaign season is near, even when these roads are in a perfectly good condition. I hate having to pay more for traveling within the Philippines than traveling outside to places such as Singapore or Hong Kong. I hate having to endure poor traveling conditions just to go and see the wonderful tourist places that this country can offer.

I hate it that most of the attention always seems to be focused on Metro Manila. I hate it that areas outside Metro Manila seem to be given no importance, the news networks all agog when something even minor happens in Manila but barely making noise when it concerns the provinces. I hate it that the capital is overcrowded, with people who think their only goal in life should be to keep adding to the growing population. I hate it that people from the provinces get looked down upon. I hate it that privileged students from the top schools have absolute no idea what life is the provinces is like. I hate it that many people still believe the Philippines is only Metro Manila.

I hate how so many Filipinos cannot afford to feed themselves and have to resort to eating “pagpag” (leftover food dumped in the garbage). I hate seeing a small child (who is most likely part of a syndicate) go inside a jeepney to distribute envelopes for alms. I hate how so many of our countrymen still live in shanties. I hate it that people die because we do not have adequate health facilities, hospitals, doctors and health workers to take care of the ailing.

I hate how disasters keep striking this country year after year and our only response is to say that the Filipino spirit is strong/resilient, and we continue making the same mistakes leading to the same disasters. I hate it when the media feed useless trash to the public and prevent it from thinking about more important issues (that do not concern Vhong Navarro and his beating incident).

I hate it when brilliant people I know choose to leave this country because there are better opportunities outside where they can best develop their talents (and sadly, this country cannot offer the same options to them). I hate it when mothers and fathers have to leave home to work abroad because they cannot find a job in this country that can sustain their loved ones, and consequently produce a dysfunctional family with spoiled children who see their parents as mere providers of material things.

There are so many things I hate. Most of all, I hate it when I always try to find a justification for this country. I hate it that I have to find myself scrambling for answers to queries from relatives if I have plans to settle abroad. I hate the thought of actually leaving this country, but I sometimes find myself entertaining the thought of actually leaving in order to have a comfortable and secure future—in a land where proper health care is readily available.

I hate it that I found words of inspiration and motivation to stay and fight for this country from a British man, not from a fellow Filipino! I hate how I find so many European volunteers appreciating this country, and they are probably more Filipino in heart than I can ever be. I hate it that as each year passes, I find myself growing more and more discontented with this country. I hate how the strong idealism I had after graduation is being chipped away as I get older.

I hate getting frustrated that whatever effort I make does not appear to have any lasting impact.

I hate how I keep on believing there is still hope for this country to turn around. To quote from “Brokeback Mountain”: I wish I could quit you.

I hate it when someone hates this country because of the attitude of the people who dwells in it. Why do you think there are so many corrupt politicians and illegal loggers in the Philippines? Is it because they love their country?

Our mother country (her name is Philippines) have given us vast natural resources, from rivers, mountains, lands, forest, pearl, gold, etc. In fact how many Country have tried to take this resources from us. She was raped, violated and robbed. But she remain faithful of her love for her people. Even if her children left her, go to other mother and serve them, she still acknowledge them as her child. She is proud of their achievements and will shout it to the world. All she wanted is to be loved back.

Hate the people but not the country. Do not ask what your country can do to you, instead ask what you can do for your country. You may leave the Philippines, but do not loose hope. Keep your love for our Country as she deserved to be loved. Destroying corruption will not take a day or two, removing poverty will not deminish without proper education. Being vigilant on the rights of every Filipino will be a good start. Choosing the right leader will take some time, however, if there is a goal set by the current leader we can choose to support that common goal. That is the role of the leader in the first place, to set a goal and the team should reach that common goal. We cannot make Ferdinand Marcos return to set the goal for this country, but we can still reach one goal every 6 years until the right leader take us to the new world.

Heck a small country called Singapore with no resources can compete globally, why can't we.

I think mas malaki pa rin kasalanan ng mga pilipino mismo, karamihan madaling mauto sa mga papogi saka sa bango ng mga pangalan ng pulitiko kaya kung boto lng tayo ng boto without knowing who would we give our precious vote for, mga ganyang pulitiko mamamayagpag sa bansa natin at ang masama pa nyan, karamihan nag sisisi na binoto nila si ganito ganyan ganyan

Let's wait until 2016 (if it even takes that long) to find out if politics and religion don't mix--or perhaps the proper word is fornicate?--in our country. After all, haven't the two been strange bedfellows for so long?

Religion in this country is an insult to the natural good in humanity. Pag wala kang religion dito, iisipin nila masama kang tao, yung ibang religion naman dito pyramiding lang ang habol (business), though their members will NEVER admit it, they're too deep in sh*t themselves.

In my view,  both religion and politics are compose of people who have sovereignty towards others. Then would that change anything if we separate religion and the state? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to change ourselves first before we try to change the world? Let us be the change we want to see.

Why not blame it to nationalism? In fact,  if you love your country,  you would not want to show the world how miserable our country is and not going to do anything about it. If our leader loves our country,  they will be the initiator of change. Jose Rizal do not belong to the misfortunate but choose to leave it all for the sake of our motherland,  that my friends is nationalism.

Both religions and states are composed of people of one Republic. It can be separated in time, if we choose to love our country more than we love our pocket.

It is us Filipinos that needed to be changed,  our attitude towards religion,  politics, entertainment, business, economics,  education,  etc. There are those individuals shouting their lungs out saying "sahod itaas, presyo ng bigas ibaba" but do they know how to make things happen the way they want it? In a world ruled by instant coffee and instant noodles, our mindset would be instantaneous change without changing ourselves.  Wake up people, it is not about them, it is you.

There are people who does not know what is happening,  there are people who watch things as it happens,  but we can choose to be the people who can make things happen.

There's a vicious cycle that has to be broken somehow, i.e. people are poor and thus mostly uneducated-->uneducated people are prone to vote for undeserving/corrupt politicians -> corrupt politicians steal money that should be allotted for basic services (including education of the masses), and thus people are poor and uneducated, and so on and so forth...

Question is, how do we begin to break this cycle?  ???

heck even my kids aged 8 and 6 hate what's happening in the country. my wife told me while they were watching nightly news, my boys asked what are those jaywalkers and kidnappers. so my wife explained in simple kids terms. then my boys reacted saying, "bakit ba ang daming di nagfofollow ng rules at instructions dito tsaka bakit di nalang mag work yung mga kidnappers, ang tamad tamad nila."

sa murang isipan nila pangit na talaga magstay sa pinas. that's why they are asking me when kami aalis ng philippines daw. well, as for me, im working my butts out for that to happen. ayoko na din talaga sila sa pinas. magulo na masyado.

I wish I was, pero in a country with corruption down to the lowest levels of government, even suspicions should be taken seriously. Wala namang konsepto ng hiya dito, pakapalan pa nga ng mukha, so if they won't commit suicide, I suggest we do it for them. This is also my way of saying it's damn near impossible.

Madaling isisi sa mga politikong buwaya, pero may kasalanan din tayo. Mahirap mang aminin, lunukin ang katotohanan. Pero kung hindi natin ito haharapin, lalo lang mabubulok ang Pilipinas.

that's the reason why we have freewill and free choice why would you question the existence of a complex knowledge of unknown origin as a human that without religion a precursor of goodness  the blueprint of morality and controller of chaos. Our  foundation will be a  morbid and gore of endless vicious cycle of life unhindered of wrongness.  Different story, different legends  it foretells corruption of a mythical level 6000 or 12000 years ago that is corruption was imprinted in collective memory

I should hope that it is impossible, mon ami,  because if one angry Filipino with the will and the means commits such an extreme act, I foresee nothing but more sorrow for this country.

Seigneur maniac2999, I think that what Seigneur Idiot means to say is that religion was one of the original methods by which humanity learned the difference between right and wrong and that religion has, on numerous occasions throughout history, prevented human beings from degenerating into savage beasts. That being said, it's still up to us to decide whether or not to obey what our religions teach us with regards to what's right and what's wrong.

we're not talking about religion and the morals of it here

its about religion, the people who manipulate religion for their own gain and the gullible people who fall for it

Its as Tounge mentioned, a vicious cycle. the politicians manipulate the uneducated poor.

madali din sabihin na bat wala tayong ginagawa? im assuming most if not all on this discussion is in the middle class pero we are in the minority. i didnt vote for bam aquino nor binay nor most of those other senators who won.

Let us also not forget that the same thing "assumed to have taught humanity good" , undisputably caused numerous wars (and in the process , death and famine by the millions, heck they put up accounts of wars in the bible). Maybe the extent to which religion is useful has passed a few thousand years ago, nowadays we have countries with majority atheist populations and they are doing quite well.

In this country, it serves no purpose but a machinery by which these politicians and hooded hoodlums control the populace into filling their pockets.

The more left-leaning thinkers don't see the problem of the middle class as their being a minority; it's that the middle class prefers to maintain the way things are at present as long as they can continue living their comfortable lives.
