Top 10 Highest Scoring Players in NBA Finals...
« on: June 16, 2014, 01:45:37 am »
10. Michael Jordan - 45 Points

Starting off this Top 10 Highest Scoring Players In NBA Finals is Michael Jordan. After the Bulls and Jazz finished the 1997-98 season tied with the same record,  it was to be a very competitive series. Jordan put on a show in Game 6 which was to be his and coach Phil Jackson’s last game with the Bulls. With 5.6 seconds remaining on the clock and Bulls down by one Jordan hit a jump shot putting the Bulls up by one, the final result.

9. Wilt Chamberlain - 45 Points

What would a scoring Top 10 list be without Wilt. In the 1970 finals against the New York Knicks, Wilt did something which would be considered Legendary today but was merely typical of him. Not only did Wilt knock down 45 points but he also grabbed 27 rebounds, leading the Lakers to a 135-113 win over the Knicks in Game 6. Unfortunately, despite Wilt having another 20 points 20 rebounds game the Lakers lost Game 7 and the series was the Knicks.

8. Jerry West - 45 Points

What makes this spot on the list extremely unique, is that Jerry West not only scored 45 points in an NBA Finals game, but he did it twice one year after the other. Jerry West was an iconic player in the Lakers and still remains as one of the greatest scores the club and the NBA has ever seen.

7. Michael Jordan - 46 Points

Michael Jordan returns from spot number 10 to spot number 7 with another classic performance from the legend. Going into the 1992 Finals series between the Blazers and the Bulls the rivalry was always Michael Jordan and Clyde Drexler. Jordan hit 6 3 pointers in Game 1 with 35 points in the first half and in Game 5 he hit a remarkable 46 points to help the Bulls get one step closer to what would soon be a 4-2 series win for the Bulls.

6. Allen Iverson - 48 Points

The Lakers went into the 2001 Finals having not lost a single game all post season and in Game 1 Allen Iverson came out with an impressing 48 point performance. He led the Sixers to a 107-101 upset which would however be followed by a 4 game winning streak from the Lakers to finish off the series.

5. Bob Pettit - 50 Points

After the Hawks had suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Celtics in Game 7 of the 1957 NBA Finals they were back for their revenge in 1958. Bob Pettit had a 50 point game in game 6, which would give them the Finals win 4-2. Pettit scored 18 of the Hawks last 21 in the game and with his last second shots lead them to a 110-109 win over the Celtics.

4. Jerry West - 53 Points

Once again Jerry West is back with a comfortable 4th spot on this list. In the 1969 NBA Finals against the Celtics coached by Bill Russell Jerry West knocked down 53 points in game 1, despite complaining about problems with exhaustion pre-game. It wasn’t only Game 1 where West stood out, throughout the entire series he averaged nearly 38 points per game.

3. Michael Jordan - 55 Points

Appearing for the 3rd time on this Top 10 is Michael Jordan. Jordan had a mind blowing game with 55 points and was unstoppable when driving to a lane. You could try to foul him but the ball wound up falling through the net either way. A few months after winning the series 4-2, Michael Jordan’s father was murdered and this put Jordan off playing basketball for a while until he returned for the 95 season.

2. Rick Barry - 55 Points

Equalising the amount Jordan scored in the 1992 Finals, Rick Barry claims the runners up position on this countdown with an equally impressive game. In Game 3 of the 1967 NBA Finals, with his team down 2-0 in the series, Barry stepped up for his team with an outstanding hall of fame standard performance. Leading his team to a 130-12

1. Elgin Baylor - 61 Points

Clearly, Elgin Baylor has topped this list by a long run. No one has even come close to this record in NBA history and I think it will stay this way for many years to come. Baylor scored 61 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in a Game 5 126-121 victory to put the lakers up in the series 3-2, however the Lakers lost the next two games to the Celtics and let the Celtics get away with the title that year.
