POHANG-CLASS CORVETTES
Pohang-Class Corvettes are multi-purpose vessels categorized as Patrol Combat Corvette(PCC) of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN)--their main mission is coastal line defense, the first 4 ships are subclassified as ASUW (Anti-Surface Warfare) and the remaining 20 ships as ASW (Ati-Submarine Warfare). The lead ship Pohang (PCC-756) Pohang is already in a museum, the 2nd ship Gunsan (PCC-757) was donated to the Colombian Navy renamed as ARA Narino (but heck, there was confusion if it really is the Gunsan,PCC-757 or the Anyang,PCC-755, a Donghae Class PCC, perhaps they got both as a freebie , but that's another story). On the other hand, the 3rd and the 4th PCCs of this subclass the Gyeongju (PCC-758, built by Hyundai) and Mokpo (PCC-759, built by Daewoo S&M Eng'g) respectively and both commissioned in 1986 and are the next-in-line for future retirement as the Incheon-class frigate comes on-line for the ROKN. Further, that the Gyeongju and Mokpo are the last two-ships of Pohang-class subclassified as ASUW which differs to ASW, one of which is that they are armed with French MM38 Exocet Anti-Ship Missiles while the ASW carried the American Harpoons.
