I believe humans were not designed to run long distances. Our ancestors pretty much did not run everyday. They did not hunt food by chasing down gazelles. They sprinted, stopped, camped, sprinted, camp and then strike at the right time (HIIT lol).
Running as a leisure exercise is good but there are more decent ways of spending energy and getting fit.
However good your posture or style of running is, you can't deny the wear and tear on the knees and ankles of low intensity running. That is why people minimize this by getting good shoes (i like barefoot running though) and not running on hard cemented floors.
And yes, as per studies low intensity running is more injury prone than sprinting. But of course you don't do sprints when you are a couch potato. It requires a certain level of athleticism and fitness before you do intense sprints. Thats why you do HIIT with small intense intervals first then gradually move on as you progress.
