If I remember correctly, there's a variation on this story that goes like this:
A couple goes out on a dinner date, leaving their son with his usual trusted and favorite babysitter. A little later that evening, they call her up and ask how things are going. "Hello, Lynette - how are you and Jackie doing?"
The babysitter replies: "No problems with Jackie, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips...except for that clown statue in his bedroom. It was scaring him so much I'm letting him sleep on the couch while I watch TV. To be honest, it does look creepy. I don't know why he'd want it in his room."
"What? Get Jackie and get out of the house now, Lynette!" Mr. Phillips said in a strident tone.
"Huh? What for, sir?"
"There is no clown statue in Jackie's bedroom! Get out of there now and call 911 once you're outside! We're on our way back right now!"
