Many parts of Metro Manila were flooded Monday, August 19, as tropical depression Maring intensified into a tropical storm.
Weather bureau Pagasa said Maring has maximum winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and a gustiness of 90 kph.
Maring is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, that will bring moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms over Luzon, Pagasa said.
The weather bureau has earlier issued a red-alert alert rainfall warning over Metro Manila, which means serious flooding is to be expected.
A red alert warning is "raised when observed rainfall is more than 30mm within one hour or if rainfall has continued for the past three hours and is more than 65 mm," the Official Gazette said in its website.
Meanwhile, classed have been suspended in several parts of the metro and in nearby provinces. Officials have cancelled classes in the following areas:
