Sana ma-recognize ito officially ng pamahalaan.

MANILA, Philippines -- A movement was launched Saturday to have Andres Bonifacio, founder of the Katipunan, recognized as the first president of the Philippines.

The launch, spearheaded by Sentro ng Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO), was held at the SSS Museum in Quezon City.

"Nais naming ituwid ang mga maling akala kay Bonifacio at kilalanin siya bilang unang lider ng isang nabubuong nasyon (We wish to correct the misconceptions about Bonifacio and recognize him as the first leader of a united nation)," Josua Mata, secretary general of the Alliance of Progressive Labor and co-convenor of SENTRO, said in a statement.

Among the featured guests at the launch were National Artist Virgilio S. Almario, the hero’s descendant lawyer Gregorio Bonifacio, history professor Michael Xiao Chua, media personality and author Lourd Ernest de Veyra, and National Historical Commission of the Philippines chair Ma. Serena Diokno.

The campaign for Bonifacio’s recognition will take many forms with a focus on raising awareness among the youth and the working class about the hero as a model of humanism and leadership, Mata said.

He said correcting history would also serve to correct the path toward the country’s future.

"Ang mga mithiin ni Bonifacio at ng ordinaryong Pilipino ay parehong-pareho --kalayaan sa gutom at kahirapan, kalayaan sa kamangmangan at kawalang pag-asa, kalayaan sa panunupil at kalayaan sa kontrol ng mga dayuhan (The aspirations of Bonifacio and of ordinary Filipinos are the same -- freedom from hunger and poverty, freedom from ignorance and despair, freedom from oppression and freedom from foreign control),” Mata said.

SENTRO cited historians Gregorio E. Zaide, Teodoro A. Agoncillo and John M. Taylor, who all wrote that the Katipunan established a de facto government and elected Bonifacio president, a post he held form August 1896 until he was assassinated in May 1897 by the men of Emilio Aguinaldo, who is currently the officially recognized first president of the country.

Baka kumontra dyan yung Aguinaldo clan.
Mahirap nga baguhin yan pero kung gusto ng namumuno at nakararami, pwede.

As long as ma-raise yung awareness ng mga batang Pilipino sa isyu na yan, siguro na-achieve na nila yung kalahati ng goal nila.
