Female mountaineer missing in Banahaw
LUCENA CITY — Search and rescue teams have been dispatched to Mount Banahaw on Monday morning to look for a missing female mountaineer, a Quezon official said.
According to Henry Buzar, coordinator of the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a woman mountaineer has been missing in Banahaw since Sunday.
“We’ve already dispatched search and rescue teams from the towns of Dolores, Tiaong and the provincial government,†Buzar said over the phone.
He said they have yet to establish the identity and the personal circumstances of the missing mountaineer.
Protestant Pastor Noel Suministrado, a noted mountaineer based here in Lucena City, said mountaineers group from University of the Philippines-Diliman will also join the search
Salud Pangan, DENR-park area superintendent for Banahaw, confirmed the report on the missing mountaineer.
Citing initial report that reached her office, Pangan said the missing mountaineer was with a group of three trekkers and a local guide.
There was no information how and why she got separated from her group.
“They were considered as mountain ‘trespassers’ because they were not given permission to enter the protected area,†Pangan said.
