Filipino-Swiss Formula 1 junior driver Marlon Stockinger in his two-day exhibition/demo of Lotus F-1 in Manila and Pasay City.
Stockinger, was handpicked by the Lotus F1 Team to be part of a group of seven elite junior drivers to train and compete in the sport, steered the wheels of the world champion Formula One race car at the first ever Manila Speedshow, For the first time in Philippine history, three Lotus F-1 cars screamed down the roads of Manila.
Stockinger started the exhibition at Quirino grandstand during the first day of the event on May 4. On the second day, May 5, Stockinger drove the F1 at the Mall Of Asia grounds. Stockinger was accompanied by Lotus F1 reserve driver Davide Valsecchi who drove the second Formula 1 car.
The others are Lotus F1 Team Principal Eric Boullier, Lotus F1 Team Business Development Head Martin Reiss, Lotus F1 Team Patrick Louis, and Veteran Formula 1 journalist Peter Windsor. After the Manila Speed Show, Stockinger will return to Europe to resume the Formula Renault 3.5 series campaign in Monte Carlo, with several races all over Europe until the season ends in October. Formerly Renault, the Lotus F1 Team started racing under the Lotus banner in last year's season, where it placed Fourth in the Constructors' Championship.
Well-known racers have driven under the Renault banner before, including racing legend Michael Schumacher, who won the Drivers' Championship under the team in 1994 and 1995, and Fernando Alonso did likewise in 2005 and 2006. The team bagged the top Constructors' honors in both 1995 and 2006.
