one thing to note about the built in media players on the new tv's these days, Sony DOES NOT play subtitles. mother ko kasi loyal parin sa sony so bumili ng Sony 42 inch LCD with built in media player mga 2 months ago. the player does not play subtitles (srt, idx/sub). also tested it with mkv files with internal subs, the file plays but no subs (sa Samsung ok ang subs and take note these were 10bit mkv files yung mga bago now). about dun naman sa ayaw mag play ng more than 8GB file, nasa encoding yun ng media player, probably using an old one para makamura sa cost
may 46 inch naman na samsung this year lang nabili (one month earlier than the Sony) also with built in media player, it plays subtitles fine (srt, idx/sub)
more than the brand, check the specs. hindi porke't same sila ng screen size pareho na sila. as for quality, these days its hard to tell since LCDs are way different than CRTs before
so far sa mga nakita ko past 2 years, hindi maganda ang mga LCD ng Sony specs wise. its way inferior, nadadala lang nila sa name na Sony. Sa samsung naman, ang bilis nila maglabas ng bago with overall improvements so madali ka maghinayang pag bumili ka then pag may bagong labas na same price pero better overall specs and all.
eto isang tip ko for buying LCD TV, marami kasi dyan they will say its full HD. itest niyo sa computer (via HDMI) lagay niyo sa 1920x1080 ang resolution, pag nakita niyo ng buo then its ok. marami kasi akong mga nakitang TV, sabi nila full HD pero pag view mo sa computer, putol siya (yung iba pa kahit sa HDMI mo ikabit, it will only default on 1366x768 meaning hindi talaga siya full HD). hindi mo makita yung mga nasa dulo. hindi mo to mapapansin if you are watching TV or movies since its not that big to notice BUT its a sign of the build quality
