I stand corrected: the group's name is
Al-Shabaab or (officially)
Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen.
Their goal is to overthrow the incumbent government of Somalia and establish the
ummah, a unified Islamic state under
shari’a law. Unfortunately, their methods are similar to
Al Qaeda (
with whom they have been linked) and the Taliban. They consider anyone opposed to them as enemies of Islam--and therefore subject to death.
Those enemies, of course, include just about every organization from the West and so al-Shabaab has placed severe restrictions (
bordering on an outright ban on some cases) on the entry of aid groups into Somalia.
