How to Turn Off AutoRun on Windows XP:
Viruses today such as worms, trojans and malwares are easily propagated using removable devices such as flash drives and other mobile drives. These drives are auto-mounted by default so it is advisable to turn-off windows xp’s autorun feature to prevent viruses from executing automatically by the windows xp’s automount feature.
Below are the steps you have to perform to disable autorun feature of the windows xp.
1. Click on start then run and type in gpedit.msc and then click ok. gpsc.msc is the group policy editor/utility that you can use to set group or individual system policies.
2. On the left pane, look for the “User Configuration†tree then click on “Administrative Templatesâ€ÂÂ.
3. Click on “System†tree and on the right pane look for the “Turn Off Autoplay†and double click it to open.
4. Click “Enable†and select “All drives†from Turn Off Autoplay on box.
5. Click OK to save settings and you’re set.
In any case if the setting does not take effect, restart your computer.
