MANILA - The government can build the common station for the LRT1 and MRT3 anywhere it wants, but the facility will have to be named after SM, according to the son of the Philippines' richest man and owner of the country's biggest chain of shopping malls.

"Okay lang whatever decision may come, basta naming rights is ours," SM Prime Holdings Inc president Hans Sy said today.

Transport Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya last Wednesday said the government has decided to ditch SM North Edsa as site for the common terminal of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and Light Rail Transit Line 1.

Instead of building it beside the SM mall in Quezon City, the government has opted to erect it alongside the Trinoma Mall because, according to Abaya, doing so would entail lower costs. MRT 3 ends in front of the Trinoma, which is owned by Ayala Land Inc (ALI).

SM Prime already paid state-run Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) P200 million for the “naming rights” of the common station, which would also connect the proposed MRT7. Abaya said the government may have to return the P200 million to the SM group.

The government has allotted P1.608 billion for the common station project.

At present, LRT1 runs from Baclaran to Roosevelt in Quezon City, while MRT3 from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City.

The planned MRT 7 will begin at Tala, Caloocan City, passing through Lagro and Fairview, Novaliches, Batasan, Diliman, Philcoa, before ending at Edsa corner North Avenue. The railway will serve an estimated two million commuters in the northern parts of Quezon and Caloocan cities.

isosoli na lang daw 200m  laffman::

i doubt papayag ang mga Sy na ibalik sa kanila iyan ng walang interest.

isa pa, investment na nila iyan. the fact na tinanggap na yung 200m, payag ang LRTA noon. tapos ngayon ayaw na.

hindi siguro nalangisan, kulang sa pampadulas. mga taong gobyerno talaga oh.   :o

Anak ng pating oo, yan ang problema sa gobyerno natin papasok sa kasunduan tapos pag me nag alok na iba aatras at lilipat na. Hayy ang lagay nga naman talagang napakalaki na hindi mahindian..... >:(

pwede pa rin namna iname na SM Masinag for example para distinction pa rin yung lugar kahit may SM

baka naman panahon pa ni GMA ngbigay ng 200M ang SM sa gobyerno..e iba na ang administrasyon ngayon at nasilip na lugi ang sambayanang pilipino sa deal kaya yan hehe..   ::lmao

ndi ko lang alam kung dito lang sa lipa (batangas) but ung main terminal ng bus ay ililipat daw sa SM lipa including ung ibang mga small terminal like jeeps, trikes and multicabs na malapit sa area, kagagawa lang ng malaking terminal nila at operational na, at naging bus stop narin sya ng mga route from manila going to Batangas city and Lemery, so meaning, pumapasok ung mga bus inside sa terminal which is before ay along the highway lang ang bus stop.

transport terminals are big business for SM, just like what they did in SM Megamall & SM North Edsa; lalagyan nila yan ng mga stalls nearby.

kailangan kase nila yan ng mga terminals or babaan ng mga common na tao

kase oras na inalis mo yan ang terminal sa SM e baba ang sales nila

even sa public markets oras na nilayo mo ang sakayan ng tao mag-collapse ang public market or madami ang nalulugi sa lugar namin e on-going ang experimets nilayo nila terminal yung daming nalugi sa amin therefore connected ang terminal sa growth

I see no problem here kung maging SM station 1, ang aim naman ng naming ng station eh maging as descriptive yung name dun sa lugar na bababaan, hindi lang sa mga pinoy kundi para sa foreigners, admittedly mas madali naman madistinguish yung higanteng SM sign kaysa sa street name lang nung station di ba?
