After a superb show tonight set around reflective panels, Raf Simons remarked that he and his staff see perhaps 250 young men for casting in Antwerp, and of course most of them come in wearing casual sportswear. But,
Blue Dress, he added, “If there would be one dressed up in a suit that would be avant-garde.†Tailoring remains Simons’ great fascination; it was his starting point in the mid-90s. The opening looks in this show—with a new cast of models—brought to mind the early days of his label,
Karen Millen Dresses, the simplicity and boyishness. Now, though,
Karen Millen Coats, everything is rarified. Doesn’t it pay to revisit and revisit? The suits and the
coats are slim but the fit seems more accessible and mature, and Simons is now making all the clothes in Italy. It shows in the quality of the materials and construction.
