Kris Aquino: 'Sa 2016 dapat manalo ako'
DAVAO CITY, Philippines - And we thought the president's sister is eyeing the governorship of their home province of Tarlac for 2016?
On Thursday night, May 2, however, Kris Aquino dropped hints that she is aspiring for a national position when the term of her brother, President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, ends.
At a political rally of the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod here, Kris reportedly teased incumbent Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for not supporting her brother in 2010, resulting in Noynoy's small vote share in Davao City. Then she told Duterte to make sure he will carry her in 2016.
“Mayor Duterte, hello, friends na tayo. Dahil hindi mo 'pinanalo si Noy nung 2010, sa 2016 dapat manalo ako (Mayor Duterte, hello, we're friends now. Because you did not make Noy win in 2010, in 2016 you should make me win)," Kris was quoted in an article in DavaoToday.com.
Duterte was caught off guard by Kris's straightforward statement. The crowd, meanwhile, enjoyed the rare moment.
“But that’s all that I can do,†Duterte replied.
Kris refused to reveal what position she is eyeing, but Duterte said she “will run for senator.â€
Kris also invited Duterte to be her co-host for the second anniversary episode of her morning show, Kris TV, which she plans to bring to Davao.
“Magre-request na ako kay Mayor na ka-close ko na. Halos ang buong Pilipinas nalibot ko na pero ang Davao hindi ko pa nalilibot. So sana pagpunta ko dito ikaw ang co-host ko (I will make a request with Mayor who is now close to me. I have been to almost every place in the Philippines, but I haven't been around Davao. I hope when my show comes here, you'll be my co-host)," Kris said.
Duterte responded eagerly but changed his mind shortly after, saying that he is “no Chiz†Escudero to be able to do the show.
Kris asked Duterte to tour her around Davao, especially its tourist destinations so that her audience — particularly those who are watching outside the country — would see and appreciate the city’s cleanliness, mouth-watering food, and the culture of discipline practiced by the residents.
