Nationwide, the Philippines comes quite close to achieving the basic UN education goal. About 90% of children register at primary schools. For a middle-income country, that's not bad.
But the devil is in the detail. The children at Bonglo rural school seemed to be getting a decent education. But many schools in urban areas are severely overcrowded. There is also a high dropout rate - a much smaller percentage complete primary education than start it - and the quality of provision is sometimes poor.
