I've always thought of china as THE big thing. From the way they do business down to their ancient cultures and traditions. While their currency is less on the international market, you can buy a lot more with it than anywhere else. my 2 cents.

sometimes its more than just the money..how about the essence of communism? russia may have failed but it seems like china's trying to regain the unrequited glory of communism..

What may appear to be big may actually turn out to be empty inside.

"Big" in what way?  Nowadays, I consider China as just one big PAPER TIGER.  Remember nun nag open sila in the early 70s na wala silang foreign reserves literally? Binigyan sila ni Mr. Marcos na naging panimula nila to create and print money which triggered local manufacturing and construction. It is never the size of a country's land area that determines strength.  Israel, Britain and Japan is about the same size as our country but the military strength of these countries can not just be ignored. Singapore is about the same size as Metro Manila but why is it that the financial strength and military might of that city state seemed to have surpassed us?  I do not deny that the Chinese people make fast decisions and do things fast which is why they can create a lot of infrastructure very fast. But they can never be "big" because they lack the heart - the appreciation of humanity and the humane treatment of each and every individual.
