Remembering Bobby Parks (1962 – March 30, 2013)

I first played with Bobby Parks in the 1988 Third Conference, with Formula Shell. Bobby, Benjie Paras, and I used to be called the “Awesome Threesome.â€
Bobby Parks was a born ballplayer. Highly-skilled and gifted with superior athleticism. Unselfish as a teammate. Highly efficient and ever reliable. He was a big-time performer. A proven winner.
He ranks among the top five among Best Imports of all-time.
Beyond being a teammate, he was a friend. He was a person who was full of life, and always filled with positive aura.
We won two titles with the Shell franchise, before eventually moving in different directions.
The last time I saw Bobby was in Eastwood, in the third quarter of last year. Bobby was with his wife, and we talked about his son Rayray and our children, who grew up too fast.
Next thing I knew, I heard he was sick again — that the “Big C†was back, and that he was not doing too well. That he was in the ICU, and that he was losing the battle.
His family lost a good man. I lost a friend, a teammate. The PBA lost a real icon.
But I’d like to believe that Bobby found his way back home to the Father, where everlasting life awaits him.
Ronnie Magsanoc was named one of the PBA’s 25 Greatest Players during the league’s silver anniversary in 2000. After playing 15 seasons in the PBA, he currently serves as an assistant coach for the Meralco Bolts.
