Review of restaurants I have been to recently (davao city area only)

dito lang muna to til i can decide what to do with it later on

Im going to start with gerry's grill sa gaisano mall

we went there on a sunday, around 12noon. surprisingly, unlike other restaurants in malls which are crowded on sundays, gerry's grill wasn't

we ordered the following: beef spareribs, spicy garlic chicken, seafood rice, calamares, tuna belly, spicy adobo shreds and of course drinks. total bill was around 1800

comments on the food

beef spareribs - grilled style. Came in a sizzling plate. Tastes good but serving size wasn't. It had 2 pieces of beef but the 1st piece was like 3/4 fat and the 2nd one was around 1/2 bone.

spicy garlic chicken - tasted awful. me and my brother felt it wasn't fully cooked (which showed in a few pieces)

seafood rice - ok selection. had pieces of fish, crab, tahong, etc.

calamares - not the usual calamares you are accustomed to in other restaurants. different way of cooking and different presentation and as expected different taste too

tuna belly - just about the only decent food we got. nice taste and cooked just right

spicy adobo shreds - can't comment. didnt eat it

so with my experience, I think I can guess why the place wasn't crowded during lunchtime on sunday. some foods are excellent but most are disappointing. its good to go to once in a while just to eat somewhere nice (the place has a nice ambiance) but not really that good, there are definitely better places than this

Marina seafood restaurant (bo. pampanga beside hyundai davao)

went there on a weekday, had some guests from manila. place was now bigger than the last time I ate there (more than 1 year ago). also found out that besides the usual seafood, they now offered japanese food.

ordered the following: Steamed pampano, blue marlin fin silik, sashimi, fish eye sinigang, swordfish belly, salad in buko and drinks. bill was around 2000

comments on food:

sashimi - not really a fan of raw fish but to my taste, it was ok. nothing special

fish eye sinigang - tastes good. not too sour, just right. our companion really liked fish eyes so it was a real treat for him (i ranked it fourth among the dishes we had)

steamed pampano - chose the fresh one. cooked to perfection. really nice taste. the second best dish we had for the night

blue marlin fin silik - it was ok. not the best i've tasted (which was somewhere in gensan) but still it was ok (i rank it third among the dishes we had)

swordfish belly - grilled style. at first sight, you would mistake it for porkchops. but once you get your fork on it, its so soft you instantly know its fish. tasted very very good. the best dish we had for the night. was even tempted to order another one

very very nice place to eat. only drawback is its location. its quite far from downtown already. but its definitely worth it. very good food, very nice ambiance. a bit pricey though compared to other seafood restos (i.e. belly's grill and those seafood restos in times beach) but just about at par with the likes of bigby's, ahfat, etc

medyo may kamahalan lng talaga yung gerry's grill kaya wala masyadong kumakain d2 sa davao. nasubukan ko yung bangus nila tapos may halong gulay. ang okay ! sa manila sikat msyado gerry's

sa marina restaurant, masarap masyado tuna caldereta nila, tsaka crispy buntot. da best!! :)

hindi naman masyadong mahal ang gerry's. halos same price range lang naman nya ang ibang mga restos. pero sa price you pay, i dont think you get your money's worth

and yes sikat sya sa manila, partly because hindi ganun karami ang seafood restaurants dun. malimit kasi seafood sa manila unlike dito

try mo antonio's bar and grill sa SM... but if u want some seafoods
ahfat or asia's restaurant along villa abrille street, i tell you bodie msarap alimango nila dun.. lalo na ung spicy crabs nila...

i have eaten at both ahfat and asia.. kaso not lately.

i cant make review about ahfat kasi kilala ko may ari so i cant comment on it hehehe

sa new asia naman, crabs lang kasi ang food nila so minsan lang pumupunta dun

i try pud sa coco's bai, dira sa may torres. lami ilang porterhouse steak... para sa akoa right lang ang size for 298 pesos... dira pud sa belly's grill sa may quirino, ok pud ang food, mas lamian pako dira kaysa sa gerry's grill...

sabi ng mga barkada ko sa gerry's manila daw pdeng uminon at makaorder ng beer.. kung 22o nga sila ok ok na un.. sana naa sad dre sa davao  laffman::

Honey bear chicken (not related to the old honey bear chicken before)

newly opened, just used the name. though same specialty, chicken

food choices are rather limited so if you are going here and not planning on ordering chicken, then don't bother anymore. you will be going here to order chicken (fried chicken)

ordered the following:

honey bear chicken whole - since this is their specialty, you can expect this to be very good

pasta with tenderloin tips - sa mga unang subo, masarap sya. pero by the time na patapos ka na, malula na panlasa mo. pangit na lasa

tenderloin steak - its steak, my brother doesn't have any complains with steak. however, i ate a few bites and its ok, not the best i've tasted but its ok


grilled chicken salad - same with the pasta. near the end, taste didn't really go well anymore

cheese sticks - appetizer

squid rings - appetizer

papa chings

the location of this place isn't really great (its in a residential area in obrero) so first impression would be the food isn't that good. but i learned that the owner of this is the nephew of the original owner of the molave restaurant.

they specialize in greaseless chicken though they have a lot of other dishes in their menu you can choose from.

but again, their specialty is greaseless chicken so you have to give it a try. it comes in regular or spicy. i ate here twice, the first time, ordering spicy and the second time regular. the spicy was just a bit too spicy for me. the regular though was just perfect

one order is 1/2 greaseless chicken with rice for 130 (not bad price). all i can say is i love the chicken and you get your moneys worth

best crabs ---- asia restaurant along villa abrile st.
other sea foods ----- ahfat or budha restaurant at victoria plaza mall complex
best roasted chicken ---- amados restaurant along bajada
best lechon ----- ponings restaurant along chavez st
best tuna - ---- luz kinilaw at quezon blvd

chickies and patties along ramon magsaysay ave.masarap ang chicken nla.for me better than papa ching.

hmm... chickies and patties caters to fried  chicken market, papa chings is greaseless chicken. not really fair to compare these two

for the fried chicken market, i would say i prefer goldie's (in ilustre) better than chickies and patties (especially now, iba na ang timpla ng manok ng chickies)

Emerald restaurant (the new chinese restaurant at the back of victoria plaza)

ordered the following
birds nest soup
pata tim
misua guisado
fried chicken
beef brocoli
spare ribs

the food was ok. the only comment i can make is that it wasn't great. I certainly didn't feel like i got my moneys worth

la fresca sa may coca cola village sa may matina, lami ang adobong tahong nila and spare ribs.

sa gabie's pud sa may likod sa gaisano mall, nice pud ang mga fud...

 singit lng guyz...whats the best place to eat in cebu..last year..d ko pwede mention  name ng resto
i end up in the hospital...ICU pa ako dahil sa food...
im planning to go to cebu..tulong naman po jan pls.
yung malinis na restaurant..yoko ng turo2.

ok sana afhat kaya lang kargado sa vetsin ang luto nila at pag labas mo dumidikit yung amoy ng kusina sa damit mo....

for me...the following are good places to eat..

Sagay Resto sa Casa Leticia
Aseya Oriental Bistro sa Humbertos Inn
Picobello
Krua Thai sa SM
Hanoi and Tsuru
Madjids Biryani Chicken sa Gmal
RoadHouse sa SM  for their huge Pocherol
at my house hehe
