PACMAN RETIRING IN '07

Pacman retiring in '07

THIS may come as a shock to his avid boxing fans, but World Boxing Council international super featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao said he plans to retire from competitive boxing as early as next year.

Pacquiao himself bared this in an interview with reporters on Wednesday in General Santos City, saying he wanted to focus on running his various businesses, especially the Manny Pacquiao Promotions.
"Maybe after about two fights, I will retire already. I want to personally supervise my business ventures. It really makes a difference when one manages his own business," Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao is slated to fight Mexican boxing icon Erik Morales in a rubber match on Nov. 18 in Las Vegas. After Morales, Pacquiao will fight another Mexican in Marco Antonio Barrera, whom he beat to a pulp two years ago.
He said he did not want to retire from the sport with physical or mental disabilities because he wants to enjoy life after hanging up his gloves.

Pacquiao was obviously referring to some world boxing greats and Filipino boxers who had suffered various illnesses after absorbing brutal punches during their prime.
Former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, for instance, contacted Parkinson's disease after his retirement, while in the local front, former world champion Rolando Navarette, Pacquiao's townmate in General Santos City, was reduced to begging after wasting away his fortunes. Navarette is also suffering from physical disabilities.
If Pacquiao finally decides to quit for good, he will have more time to devote to his businesses other than his boxing promotion, such as a pharmacy, a convenience store, a seven-hectare cock farm, and a lotto outlet, among others.

He refused to comment when asked about his reported plan to run as vice mayor of Manila, although Manila Mayor Lito Atienza had already announced that the Pacman's running mate is the city chief's son Ali, who is presently the chairman of the Manila Sports Council.- Arman Armero

he should have second thoughts on embarking on a political career cause he will suffer a great loss financially kasi mawawalan sya ng mga products endorsements...di ba pag tatakbo ka sa election bawal ka na mag air ng mga commercials mo....sayang si manny...nauuto ni atienz..tsk tsk tsk :(

MANNY CAN RETIRE IF HE BEAT AND KNOCK ALL the best boxers in the featherweight division, first unify all the belts WBC,IBF,WBA.. then he can go retire

Nababahiran ng politika at showbiz masyado tong si Manny.... bata pa si Manny, kaya kung ako sa kanya achieve muna yung unification title, pagkatapos punta angat weight, become a champion there and then retire... at least may napprove siya...

many men who were excellent in their profession went down when they went into politics (eg. FPJ and ERAP, both are of great stature in the showbiz industry).

as far as the unification title goes, i agree, he should at least try winning it. but for him to go up a weight class, i don't. although it is always good to try something new from time to time.

anyway, this is not for us to decide... we can only cry our hearts out... (PACMAN DON"T RETIRE YET!)

its all over the news....

manny was being used by leeches and trapos.

hope that manny will realize who really cares for him...

pag nag stop na sya sa boxing... gagastos sya ng malaki sa election, bababa ang marketability nya, walang product endorsements and marami din syang makakalaban.

may business sya which is MPP Promotions, PacMan Convenient Store, Pharmacy, 7 hectare na farm, lotto outlet... pero sa tingin nyo un bang makukuha nya dyan sa business eh kaya tumbasan yung prize money nya everyfight which is mababa na ang $1M or equivalent to 51,000,000 pesos???

mas maganda sana kung ndi na sya tatakbo ng pulitika at mag business nalang... pero sayang... sa edad nyang 27 malayo pa mararating nya sa larangan ng boxing hanggang 30 years old. Nobody can beat him at this point of his career.

I just hope that when he retires he'll learn to handle his finances. I heard that he gambles a lot... I just hop he won't lose everything he worked hard for just because of this.

Let's hope not. It would be too premature for him to end his career. I'd say fight more good fights.. Take on the likes of Rocky Juarez and such.. Don't RETIRE yet MANNY!
