MANILA, Philippinesâ€â€ÂParty-list representatives Satur Ocampo, Liza Maza, and Teddy Casino registered their political coalition at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in a bid to field senatorial and local candidates in the 2010 polls.
The three opposition members went to the office of Comelec Chairman Jose Melo on Thursday morning to register Makabayan (or Makabayang Koalisyon ng Mamamayan, Patriotic Coalition of Citizens).
"This coalition, whose members have been tried and tested in the last three elections, aims to make bigger presence in the political mainstream by wining three seats in the Senate in 2010," said Ocampo, Makabayan's national president.
"Makabayan shall pursue strategic and short-term policy and system changes in the new government and beyond. We lack funds and resources but we have dedicated volunteers and activists who can run grassroots campaign, and a voter's base of three million," he added.
Makabayan is composed of party-list organizations Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela, Kabataan, ACT Teachers, Courage, and Migrante.
