Temash is AMD’s new chip for tablets and hybrids and it comes in dual and quad core flavours. We talked with AMD about this chip last week at Cebit. Luckily, we received further details that can back up some earlier performance claims and reveal some additional details. The numbers are coming from AMD’s official presentation that was shown at Mobile World Congress.

The new Temash quad core, at least the one clocked at 1GHz, will end up branded as AMD A6-1450. It has Radeon HD 8280 graphics and the Larne reference system comes with 2GB DDR3 1066 memory. The AMD A6-1450-based tablet (hybrid) in AMD’s presentation delivers scores of 981 and 3123 in 3DMark and PCMark respectively. Last generation samples, powered by the Z-60 APU clocked at 1GHz (40nm Zacate) with 2x2GB DDR3 1066, HD 6250 graphics and Windows 7 scored 455 and 1914 in 3DMark Vantage and PCMark Vantage respectively. The other, a dual core A4-1200 packs a Radeon HD 8180 graphics card.

As you can see AMD managed to double the graphics performance while the PCMark score dramatically improves. You need to be below 5W TDP in order to have a fanless system, and Temash based tablets branded as A6 and A4 systems are fanless at the reference clock.

While this may not sound much, it is likely that the CPU will be very efficient but pack a robust graphics solution that would be ideal for multimedia tablet devices. Add to this a 1.2 Watt idle power consumption, 1.4 Watt while browsing and 2.35 Watt when running H-264 online video @ 1080p.

It seems like Temash has a chance to do well as long as AMD manages to lock enough design wins for late Q2 2013 introduction.
