so i just got a Google Chromecast na padala sakin last week and i have to say i am completely inlove with it, it maybe the greatest piece of consumer electronics in recent memory, for the price of $34($37 w/ tax) roughly P1,600 or P2,000(more or less) locally and it will turn your old LCD/LED TV into one of those Uber Expensive Smart TVs as long as you have Android Smartphones or Tablets or iOS devices(though iOS devices have no full mirror functionality)
i was interested in the Chromecast when it hit last year but finding out it only had Specific App functionality like Youtube and others i was very reluctant to get one, but then 2 things happened recently, Google allowed VIDEO PLAYBACK Casting from videos played on Chrome Browser for Android and in I/O they finally allowed Full Mirror Capability on the Chromecast (albeit on Nexus and newer Samsung Devices only) which was perfect since i have a Nexus 7 LTE and for the past week ive only used my PC for gaming, everything else i need to do on the Internet i do on my N7 and Chromecast
"But Smart TVs already have FULL MIRRORING via MIRACAST" you say, sure your expensive SmartTVs can already Mirror you devices and its good if you want to play Games or Surf the Net but what about Streaming Videos and Movies along with your favorite Series Shows? Mirroring with SmartTVs requires your devices to be ACTIVE or ON all the time so it can mirror whatever is on your device which will drain you device's battery and heat it up like a mothafucka, Chromecast gives you the best of both worlds, to Full mirror your device and then allow you to open a Video Stream(on the Chrome Browser) and "CAST" it on the Chromecast to PLAY INDEPENDENTLY of your Android Device meaning you can put your device on Screen off/IDLE and put it down while the video continues to play where you can use your devices to select a part of the video you want to watch specifically
INSTALL ADBLOCK PLUS APK(its not in the Play Store) for Android Chrome coz Ads on Mobile browsers are way more horrible than those on Desktop browsers
NETFLIX, HULU and AMAZON PRIME Subscribers can also watch their content as these APPS are supported by Chromecast, sayang wala lang Netflix sa Pinas hehe

So Google just updated the Chromecast app and Chrome Browser and has now put a CAST icon on the Play/Progress bar of embedded videos eliminating the need to prebuffer videos before you can see the Cast button to make embedded videos play on your HDTV immediately

ang cheapest dito satin is P1900 ata all the way up to P2300(olx and tpc) and even P5000 sa Lazada
yung P1600 is $37 nung nabili sa US kaya mura wala pang patong

linawin ko lang
1) Chromecast is made and sold by Google, so thats pretty much the Brand: Google Chromecast
2) Full Mirror is in BETA right now and can only support these devices:
Nexus 4
Nexus 5
Nexus 7 (2013) - mah baby
Nexus 10
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 (Google Play Edition)
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 10
HTC One M7
HTC One M7 (Google Play Edition)
LG G3
LG G2
LG G Pro 2
3) on the Laptop/Desktop end it will only work with CHROME BROWSER to Cast it on your HDTV, thats it, ONLY CHROME BROWSER
It will not Mirror your entire system, you need to buy a much more expensive device to Mirror your Laptop/Desktop as is to your HDTV usually with INTEL CPUs kasi Intel pa lang ang may working WiDi(Wireless Display) tech
full screen casting is in BETA(no audio) and very unstable pero it will get there eventually

4) iOS devices are currently only usable for specific apps

I'm thinking of getting one of this and a cheap non-smart tv as xmas gift for le parents
natatawa lang ako sa hype nung smart tv for non techies, sus kahit pc niyo pwede yan tapos smart phone as remote. tapos eto lumabas nga chromecast..
-
@Master CHief: ano ba difference nung Miracast sa Chromecast? finger4u
-
Chomecast is a device can can full mirror your device or mirror specific apps and functionality to your HDTV made by Google
Mirracast is a wireless display protocol used by devices like media streamers and wireless display devices like the netgear ptv1000, its also used by SmartTVs to mirror the display of smartphones and tablets

Ayos.

Thanks for the feature TS, Chromecast can really be great with presentations considering the size of the device and being controlled by your smart phone. I've been into these lately, instead of chromecast, I got an android tv box. So kahit wala ka nang smart phone. Parang meron kang malaking android tablet sa sala. hahaha. Install XBMC media center to watch HD movies and tv shows. Say goodbye to Cable TV channels, by the way mature channels included. ;)
To know more on the different devices you can check this website http://www.bestandroidtvbox.net/

For example, na-download ko yung FilmOn Live TV app. Dami ring channels na pwede ma-stream via Chromecast. 8)

Thanks for your reply ;)

As long as those streams are HTML5 they should stream fine since the Chrome Browser only supports HTML and not Flash

Nov 2014 update lang, a nifty new feature was added making casting embedded videos easier, check the main post for details

just got mine! Parents will surely love the Plex+Chromecast setup imho. Time to go non-smart tv hunting!
screen casting works on my LG phone (e975) too kahit di siya officially listed sa taas.

$24 lang, so just over P1,000. toast::
FilmOn TV ang pinakaginagamit ko na App and Youtube siyempre. You may also want to download the Cast Store app para mas madali mag-search ng compatible apps for your Chromecast.
Btw, Roku Streaming Stick ang closest competitor ng Chromecast. Mas mahal ng konti at $50, pero may kasama kasi siyang remote so you can use even without your Android/iOS gadget.

1) if you were lucky enough to get one by being in the US or having relatives/friends who could have ordered it for you last Black Friday and get it shipped to the Philippines
2) you are limited with the installed Apps with some having IP restrictions like Netflix while with Chromecast you just need an Android 4.0 device with Google Chrome and Chrome App installed to stream your Movies, Series, Anime and Porn(yes porn) on your TV
3) if your getting a Media Streaming device odds are you own an Android or iOS Smartphone or Tablet
4) PC/Laptops with Chrome Browser will work with Chromecast as well
5) a remote, thats nice, good for roku
UPDATE FOR FEB 2015(forgot to post this)
Casting Embedded videos from your Chrome Browser on Mobile Device can now be done directly by clicking the CAST BUTTON and ignoring any ADS that may have been causing issues with playing said embedded videos, meaning pagopen nyo ng link di nyo na kailangan iprebuffer yung vid, CAST it then let it buffer on screen
the problem before this update is that you needed to prebuffer videos bago lumabas CAST Icon, so kailangan mo pa iclose yung AD to play the vid and we all know how annoying ADS are on Android
