i really don't get the whole deal here. its ok for us to say those things but its not ok if someone else says it?
i mean, how many times have we heard similar comments like that in real life?
besides, the comment might have been part of the story
point is, this would've caught public attention if people just ignored it. after all, it was just a side comment on the show. its not like its the whole plot of the show. people tend not to remember those side comments, unless of course its brought up like it is now
so whats going to happen? instead of the issue dying, people are now more curious about that remark and some people are now in fact thinking it might be true. even if an apology is done and all, the damage would've been done. now, who did more of the damage? the show itself? or the ones who decided to highlight that very small part of the show?

The way I see this is that maybe the line mentioned is not really to attack Filipinos as if they have an agenda. Maybe it's more of Teri Hatcher's character not trusting third world education in general, namely the teaching of medicine. It just so happens that the Philippines has now emerged as one of the most famous third world countries. And being famous sometimes makes it synonymous to the common term; which in this case: Third World = Philippines. Now how you take the Philippines to be a world renowned third world country is up to you. You can see that as a positive or a negative. But the fact is, our country is well known.
Now, I would just like to point out that this is not the first time that a line/event like this has come out from American television or movie. Case in point, in one episode of Family Guy, Brian (the dog) went to Hollywood and lived with his gay cousin, Jasper. Jasper (who is ofcourse a dog also) has a live in partner who is a Filipino (human) and is also gay. Another is in the movie "After the Sunset" with Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek, and Woody Harrelson. Here, while eating dinner with another couple, when asked what business he is in to, Pierce Brosnan's character answered "I have a bunch of sweatshops in the Philippines..."
I don't think they mean any harm. I am not trying to defend them either. All I am saying is, before we get angry, get offended, and develop reverse racism, I think we should step back and think that MAYBE this is nothing but a reference to the Philippines by association. And as I have explained above, the association is that Third World = Philppines. toast::

ok i really dnt understand what all the fuss is about? here are some key points:
1) she was not talking to a Filipino doctor ergo was not a racist remark, she was talking to a Caucasian doctor(or in other words WHITE), IF ANYONE HAS THE TIME PLS READ THROUGH THE LINES, she in NO WAY DEGRADES/INSULTS/QUESTIONS THE COMPETENCE OF FILIPINO DOCTORS but questions the competence of the "CRACKER" doctor for giving a diagnosis sh does not agree with specially menopause

nag attend ako ng seminar conducted by those who had trained abroad. tinuturo na kung ano ang bagong natutunan nila para magamit din ng kapwa doctor dito. ang nangyari, resistant ang mga doctor natin dito. don pa rin sila sa alam nila dati. dapat tuloy tuloy ang pag aaral ng medical practitioners natin.
in some ways, just like in this situation, we filipinos are at fault here. ayaw natin ng pagbabago sa mga nakasanayan na. makakatulong naman ang pagbabago kasi di tumitigil ang pagbabago sa mundo. kung gusto natin mag improve at mawala ang pagtingin sa atin na 3rd world country, marami pa tayong babaguhin. ang mga nangyayari sa bansa natin ay nagiging katawatawa sa iba.
hindi ko rin gusto yung sinabi sa show, pero tignan muna natin sarili natin. gamitin ito para lalo tayo maging achievers. tanggalin natin yung negative perception ng ibang bansa.

OK lang yun, alam naman natin na masmagaling tayo sa kanila kaya nga ang daming natin doctors and nurses sa US. Nakapag-work ako sa US and madaming bobo sa kanila. Madami din very low IQ dun. So I am not affected at all and I don't watch that show anyway.
So many times na ginagamit ang Filipino as a joke, never take them seriously. Kahit sa movies ni Rob Schneider (Filipino), "The Animal" meron scene sa airport isang filipino custom security tinawag na stupid but it was just a joke.
A fact also that a lot of Filipino are known for falsifying college diplomas. Dami sa recto di ba? A lot of pinoys have been buying falsified IDs, transcripts, diplomas and other documents kaya huwag kayo magreact masyado sa show because somehow medyo totoo.

hindi naman binabalewala ang issue dito e. May issue na kung may issue. The point is HINDI MALAKI ANG ISSUE...the issue is not enough, in my opinion, to strike a nerve in any one of us Filipinos. As I've said in my earlier reply, we are the more intelligent, the smarter ones, why stoop down to their level? Besides, it's not that insulting, to me atleast anyway cause I know a joke when I hear one. So what if that was mentioned? It doesn't mean it's true, right? I think employers around the world would know that it's ONLY a TV show, and that Filipinos are more competent than most in the field of medicine. This is nothing but a hearsay. Filipinos all around the world have proven their worth. People educated enough, in this case employers, do not believe hearsays right away, or do they? I think we should at least give them that much credit. And on the remark regarding racism against Black people. Hindi lahat ng Black-related jokes kinakasuhan sa Amerika. May level of tolerance pa rin among the population. Kung walang tolerance e di malaking gulo. At isa pa, not just because the African-American are very wary of racism and discrimination towards them, and that they can claim against it more than anyone else, it doesn't mean that they are not being discriminated upon anymore. RACISM in America still exist; maybe on a much lower level than it has been, but fact of the matter is, it does exist. However, amidst all this, I do believe and concur that voicing our concern is not a bad thing. What I don't like about it is the hatred and anger behind it.
