Based on the 28nm manufacturing process (it is the first such chip really), it has up to four x86 cores that are completely independent and share 2MB L2 cache (512 KB for each).

This is a clear difference compared to Bulldozer/Piledriver, which groups every two cores in so-called modules.

According to The Inquirer though, Advanced Micro Devices did not specifically deny the possibility of six-core and eight-core models in the future.

Jaguar x86-64-bit cores have a physical address 40 bits in width, which is greater than the bobcat's 36-bit.

On that note, the load/store bandwidth is of 16-byte/cycle, twice what Bobcat can offer, and the same goes for the 128-bit wide FPU data-path.

In layman terms, Jaguar is clearly better than the accelerated processing units (APUs) it will replace, even as its TDP range (thermal design power) is of only 52-25W.

Other advantages include 50 percent bigger scheduler queues, out-of-order execution, and ISA instruction sets usually only found in mid-range CPUs and better: AVX (advanced vector extensions), SIMD instruction sets (SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and SSE4A) and even encryption support (AES-NI).

Finally, battery power efficiency is ensured by the improved power-gating technology, which cuts power to inactive cores. The clock speed of those in use can reportedly go higher than 1.85GHz.

actually PS1, 2 and 3 are reverse compatible but via CLOUD STREAM meaning you get data from from a GAME CLOUD SERVER which most probably be GAKAI since SONY bought the whole shebang so no more Physical discs from games of older consoles

di na pre...parang sasabihin talaga ng sony na di yan BC support kasi(disc reading) for business issues.... sony will neglect it slowly kasi its really not a business wise idea kasi sa kaunti benta nila sa ps3)(if no bc issues = more ps3 sells)

but still they will put PSN download for PS3 games/PS2 games/PSX for PS4(for guys...who want it...)

even MS will do this for their xbox...kasi mabagal ang sale sa international but on US is really good

+ i am thinking mabubuhay pa ang ps3 dahil sa some games not yet released on that console + some developers like 3rd party exclusive like NIs and other developers to release on ps3(it will be the same as ps2 after na release yung ps3)

*kung may ps3 ka pa...wag mo na ibenta para sa ps3 games mo para di ka na bumili sa PSN para makalaro ka lang sa PS4(kahit nasa upgraded graphics or remix siya.... para lang makatipid ka + no two games..you buy right?)

During today's PlayStation event Gaikai's Dave Perry revealed that the PS4 will not natively support PS3 games and that Sony's next-gen console will instead stream PS1, PS2 and PS3 games from the cloud -- something that the company has already confirmed on Twitter.

why? when you buy 1/One PS1, 2, 3, PSP, PS Mobile game from Sony you buy ALL Versions of the game, so a PS3 game you have right now is equivalent the same version from the Cloud of that game when the PS4 goes on sale, your backup is in the greatest backup of all, THE CLOUD

PS1, 2, 3 and PSP games will have COPIES on CLOUD Servers most probably GAIKAI since SONY owns it, ALL PS1, 2 ,3, PSP  games you want to play on the PS4 will be from there, STREAMING NOT DOWNLOADING, i will bet that SONY will give PS1, 2, 3 Game Disc owners the option to register the games they already own or games they will potentially buy so that if they decide to get a PS4 and want to play OLDER TITLES from OLDER CONSOLES

as shown on the video it will not be limited to PS4s, the VITA, Smartphones and Tablets will be included but may be limited to PS1-2 and PSP Titles

Destination Playstation naman this coming feb 25 to 28. But, I think it is more of the upcoming ps3 and vita games na lang like GOW ascension and The last of us.

Despite showing a variety of games running on the newly announced PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation's US head Jack Tretton says the console's "still in development in terms of final specs and design." He told All Things D as much in an interview this morning; the PlayStation 4's specs were detailed in a press release by Sony last evening, which detail the internals as an 8-core 64-bit x86 "Jaguar" CPU built by AMD, a Radeon GPU comprised of 18 "compute units" which push out 1.84 TFLOPS, and 8GB of GDDR5 RAM.

Tretton also said he "hopes" that the PlayStation 4 won't cost $599 at launch (the PlayStation 3 launched in two models, at $499 and $599). "When I think about the console, you open it up, you look at it, you certainly look at it when you insert a disc, but for most people, it's behind a cabinet or on a shelf somewhere and you spend all your time looking at the screen," Tretton said.
