The lowest public storm warning signal has been raised in at least six areas as tropical depression “Nando†turns into a tropical storm.
“Tropical depression ‘Nando’ has intensified into a tropical storm as it continues to move in a northwest direction,†the state weather bureau said Monday.
The storm was last seen 270 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora 4 p.m. Monday with maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph).
Storm signal number 1 has been hoisted over following areas:
-Batanes Group of Islands
-Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands
-Apayao
-Isabela
Filipinos in Metro Manila and the rest of Southern Luzon have meanwhile been warned against enhanced habagat rains.
“‘Nando’ is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring light to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms,†Pagasa said.
Areas within the 400-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm are forecast to experience heavy to intense (10 to 20 mm) of rainfall.
The storm is forecast to move northwest at 15 kph, and is expected to be at 160 kilometers southeast of Basco, Batanes Tuesday afternoon.
“Nando†is expected to be 160 kilometers north of Basco late Wednesday and 420 kilometers north of the same area late Thursday.

Forecast:
The provinces of Isabela, Apayao and Cagayan including Batanes, Babuyan and Calayan group of islands will have rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. Bicol Region, MIMAROPA and the province of Aurora will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over Luzon, Visayas and eAstern Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the south to southwest with slight to moderate seas.
