The lowest public storm warning signal has been raised in at least six areas as tropical depression “Nando” turns into a tropical storm.

“Tropical depression ‘Nando’ has intensified into a tropical storm as it continues to move in a northwest direction,” the state weather bureau said Monday.

The storm was last seen 270 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora 4 p.m. Monday with maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph).

Storm signal number 1 has been hoisted over following areas:

Filipinos in Metro Manila and the rest of Southern Luzon have meanwhile been warned against enhanced habagat rains.

“‘Nando’ is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring light to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms,” Pagasa said.

Areas within the 400-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm are forecast to experience heavy to intense (10 to 20 mm) of rainfall.

The storm is forecast to move northwest at 15 kph, and is expected to be at 160 kilometers southeast of Basco, Batanes Tuesday afternoon.

“Nando” is expected to be 160 kilometers north of Basco late Wednesday and 420 kilometers north of the same area late Thursday.
