I think Bobby didn't deserve to be included in the card. One reason is the fact that before the scheduled fight against Soto, he lost via disqualification against Velazquez (you know, the guy Pacman knocked out when he was accompanied by wrestlers The Undertaker and Christian Cage). He was actually winning in that fight when he kinda lost steam in the later rounds and started hitting below the belt. It was all Bob Arum's doing.
Arum is one of the best promoters in the history of boxing. He knew what he was doing when he made that Bobby-Soto match. First, he was pleasing Manny by including his brother in the Judah-Cotto pay-per-view and it was cool for the younger Pacquiao to make a little more than $100,000. Second, had Bobby upset Soto, the plan was to pit Bobby against Erik Morales - it would definitely be interesting to see that fight even if we all know that Morales is going to win.
Now, we all know Bobby lost. No surprise. He doesn't have the power of Manny, he doesn't have the footwork, the speed. He got close when it came to heart. This defeat paves the way for Manny to fight Humberto Soto. And if Manny bites, then Arum's plan worked.
Bob Arum is really like the Vince McMahon of boxing. Golden Boy promotions might be an up-and-coming promotion, but one thing they don't have is Bob Arum. He might not always see eye to eye with most people (Freddie Roach, Don King), but he knows how to make good business with them.
