I beg to disagree. I think Kobe Bryant is the most talented player in the NBA right now. But He can never be like Michael Jordan. He has never won a championship without a dominating big man (Shaq).

If he wins 3 more rings... and keeps on playing the way he is right now... then maybe I'll change my mind.

p.s.

   - I think Dodong Polistico or Pongky Alolor can kick Kobe's butt!!!  ;D

You can't seee me!!!

Kobe Bryant will never be as good as Michael Jordan.

Never in a million years. Never ever ever ever will Kobe approach Jordan on the pedestal of basketball immortality. Kobe is great in his own right, but pundits popping up claiming the latest 'Laker sensation' is the greatest ever are way out of proportion.

Jordan is an institution, a volume in the Encyclopedia Britannica, a 'Black Jesus,' according to rival and buddy Charles Barkley. Jordan is everything to the NBA; he defined a game and molded it into a boundless sport that generations of players could build within. And he changes it while his myth continues to prosper.

If people keep bringing this Kobe-Jordan debate up, all they have to do is watch one game with Jordan.

How can you describe MJ? Larry Bird phrased it best: God disguised as Michael Jordan.

just w8..its just a matter of time. Kobe will be the best. Jordan cant win the chicago by himself Right? He have Pippen,Rodman..ETC. Sooner or Later you will see that Kobe will be the best. Like Kobe have the highest 3pt% and Ft% Jordan only have the Ft%. even Phil Jackson said that. Its just realy a matter of time Kobe is like a Bomb waiting to explode. He is also the second NBA player to reach the 1500points in the shortest period of time Jordan is only the third. Wilt is the first.

Would you rather have Kobe or the Pistons' starting five? Kobe's a ballhog. He can't win a championship by himself. MJ's a team player. He makes his teammates look good. That is why he is the greatest basketball player of all time. Kobe just wants to be 'like mike'.

Here's what Jordan has to say about young-gun Kobe coming into the game (from For the Love of the Game, pg 140):

"Look at Kobe Bryant. He doesn't even know what Kobe Bryant's game is yet. How could he? He went from high school to an environment in which he has to sink or swim. He's been able to get by on raw physical ability, but he needs to develop his own foundation before he can become a great player. He can get by borrowing from other players in the short term, but sooner or later he will have to find his own game. That's why college is so important. If I had come right out or high school into the NBA, I don't think I would have become the same player. I wouldn't have had that foundation that North Carolina provided. At the professional level, you have to produce. I would have found ways to compete night after night instead of developing a long-term plan. Can Kobe become a great player? Sure. But it's going take a lot more effort to refine his skills at the same time he's trying to survive."

MJ didn't get his first ring til Pippen, Paxson, Rodman etc. came along. As well as Kobe w/ Shaq etc. Kobe is a ballhog because he has to. I would rather have him shoot 50 times or more than his unreliable teammates. If you look at their stat, the more points Kobe get, lakers always win.

MJ is MJ. LeBron is LeBron. Kobe is Kobe...

Wag tayong mag player hate mga tol kung naka-score si Kobe ng 81 points then, more power to him. We all know na very talented yung tao at masyadong maraming pera. Siguro kung kasing galing, successful at yaman ako ni Kobe Bryant then, maybe its okay for me to criticise him. 8)

kobe is the best player ever to play in basketball game..

After kobe's most incredible performance in the NBA history, maraming positive and negative reactions...syempre!!!

Sabi ni Pat Riley  "It's remarkable, the execution and the efficiency, but we've got a lot of guys in this league, if they took 70 shots, they'd score a lot of points,"

Sabi naman ni Vince Carter  "The only bad thing about it is young kids, whose minds are easily warped, are going to think, 'Ohhh, I am going to go out there and do it' instead of the team concept first," (but i think Vince knows nothing.)

Si Shaquille O'neal...syempre, hindi nag-comment.

After he made the 2nd greatest performance in NBA, he has been mocked by sports writers, questioned by opposing players, ignored by all legends except Magic Johnson.

"This goes along with who we are as a society," sabi ni Coach Phil Jackson. "Somebody does something exceptional, people are looking for ways to denigrate them."

Eh pano naman kasi, people have been talking and thinking a lot about Colorado, i mean yung rape case nya...

Lots of people don't like him. Lots of people will never like him.

Kung si Shaq ang naka-score ng 81 points, baka buong sports world would declare a national holiday. If Nash scores 81 points, sigurado kinabukasan may interview siya kay Oprah o Jay Leno.

"In this society, we never give people a chance to come back to grace," sabi ni Phil Jackson.( he's talking about sa trial ni kobe na na-dismissed dahil pumayag ng areglo yung "biktima" kapalit ng pera$$$)

Marami narin NBA players ang nagkaroon nang same problem before like Kobe.

Those who love him, they have always loved him. Those who don't, they never will.

Kagaya ng sinabi n'ya sa Nike commercial," I Hated and Loved In Exact Same Reasons." meaning when he scores 81 points, Lakers' fans will loved him, and when he scores 81 points, Lakers' opponents will hate him (eh ang dami nun! lahat ng fans ng other 29 teams sa NBA).

"Off the court, I just try to be myself," Bryant said. "I've been through a lot, and I just try to be me. Hopefully as the years go on, people will understand what I'm about."

What makes Bryant so great on the court makes him so unapproachable off the court.

Maraming NBA fans ang nagsa-sabi na a lot of teams are great but boring to watch ( i'm talking about teams like Spurs, Pistons...), i know na yung mga fans na yun will one day embrace Kobe not only for his greatness but for he is a  total great entertainer.

Those writers who call him selfish will see how he can lift his ordinary Laker team to the playoffs. ( na hindi nagawa ni Shaq dati sa Lakers in his first year sa team kahit kasama n'ya sila Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel, Ron Harper etc...)

And all those players who dislike him, well, he is confident they will realize one day that at least he's not a phony like O'Neal.

O'Neal's comments against Kobe and the Lakers and his former team owner made him so immature, he become "The Most Dominant Immature Player In the League".

As for  Vince Carter, well, he is talking about role modeling, eh ano alam n'ya dun? Para n'yang sinabi na wag tularan si Kobe dahil he shot 50 times a game samantalang s'ya 49 times lang. See?

Then there was the quote from Michael Jordan, who told reporters, "If i guarded kobe in that game, I probably fouled out." I think he's trying to say na kung s'ya yung bantay ni Kobe that game, at kayang tumira ni Kobe in any part of the court at lahat counted, he rather fouled kobe na lang para sa freethrow s'ya umiscore ng 81 points. ( that's why MJ is the most respected player in NBA, he admits when a player is really hard to stop )

Sabi nga ni  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, "Yes, it was greater than Wilt. That's because of the wide variety of shots that he used, driving, pulling up, behind the three-point line, it was an incredible feat of versatility." ( he should know )

Phil Jackson said you had to be there. "I think people didn't see the game and just lost context of what the game is about," he said of Bryant's critics. "It's easy to say something that would be derogatory and cut it down a little bit, but if you were there at the game, I think everybody understands how remarkable it was."

And this came from the mouth of a man who once describe Bryant as "uncoachable".

Simly because the critics don't know what really happen in that game. They don't know that the Lakers are down about 15 or 16 points in the starting of the 2nd half when Kobe explode. He single handedly lift his team to victory.

And simply because for Kobe, when your team is down by a large margin during the first 3 quarters, time is running down, and your teammates still can't get their shots behind those good passes from you, what will you do? You have to score 81 points to win. I know everyone will agree. Tama?

"As for a message to the youth," Bryant said, addressing Carter's ridiculous statement. "My message is that if you work hard, you can go beyond anyone's expectations, even your own."

So the main thing is NANGYARI NA, TAPOS NA. Kobe Bryant re-write the history. He scored the 2nd most points in NBA history. It is the only night when he become greater than Jordan, greater than Magic, greater than Baylor, greater than Bird, and yes greater than Wilt, No matter how you see it, 81 was more impressive than 100.

Can we, for once, just enjoy art for art's sake? Let's just enjoy painting without analyzing the painter, watching the movie without analyzing the director, and listening to a song without analyzing its' composer. ( " , )

Kobe? The best player in the game? Wow.

81 points against a weak team like the Raptors? I would rather have the 63 point performance of MJ against the legendary Celtics.

Here's what Scottie Pippen can say about Kobe and MJ. (from his NBA blog: http://www.nba.com/blog/blog30.html)

Can't Compare Kobe and MJ

The eras in which they played are completely different
Kobe Bryant's 81-point performance the other night against Toronto was certainly incredible, but it is unfair to try and compare what Kobe did to what Michael Jordan did in his playing career or what he could have done for that matter.

In the era when Michael played, it was a physical game. Defense was promoted. Guys took pride in it. Today defense is no longer a part of the game. Guys are driving to the basket. There are rules where you can't step in front of them. To me, it is taking away from the game seeing a guy like Tony Parker taking advantage of the rules. He is shooting 55 percent from the field. That says something about the game itself. In the history of the NBA, I'm sure a point guard has never led the league in field goal percentage. It's a different game now. It's really not about being tough and physical because the NBA isn't a physical game anymore. When you talk about how the Knicks and Bulls used to battle in the early '90s, the Oakleys, and Pat Ewings, the Masons, and how they would have the ability to use their hands to put you in a trap position. There is no way you can even triple team a guy now and stop him. Any contact is a foul. I can't compare the two players because I see it as two different games. If I'm guarding Kobe Bryant in today's game, I couldn't be the defender I was known as.

The defensive rules, the hand checking, the ability to make contact on a guy in certain areas, the ability to come over in the lane to stop guys from getting to the basket, that's all been taken away from the game. There is no contact up on the floor. The way I played Magic Johnson in the '91 Finals, I would have fouled out the first time down court. To compare how someone would have played Michael Jordan, Chuck Daly would send someone to wear him down. Even though he may get 30 or 40 points, they're going to be a hard 30 points. But in today's game, you can't put that physical wear and tear on a guy. It's a free ball type of game. If you are shooting it well, you can score 80, as you've seen because you are going to get to the foul line.

Officials have very quick whistles now because they're promoting scoring. Let's not forget, three years ago, this league was trying to figure out how they could get the scoring back up, how they could drive the fans back into loving the game, and this is what they were building on. They changed the field of rules. Those rules are huge in the game today. They benefit the perimeter guy. Back in the day, you may get one guy to score 40 points in a month. When Michael Jordan scored 40, it was all over the front page of a newspaper. Now you can pretty much have 40 points at halftime. Until the league went and changed the rules and tried to get some of that bully ball out, you couldn't come out and perform like that every night. The game was too physical. You were too sore the next day and you were just tired and physically worn down. The game seems so fun and free now. Guys are making a living just standing out there shooting jumpers.

If you want to say that Kobe could get 100, I would say that Michael could get 100. If Kobe could get 81, I think Michael could get 100 in today's game. I think the psychological style that Michael was able to master in the game, puts him far beyond Kobe. But Kobe's youthfulness has put him in a position where it looks like he is overtaking Michael. Kobe has 10 years in this league. That is a lot of experience to have and still be a very youthful player.

I would love to see what would have happened the other night if the rules had been the same as in past years. Kobe is as close to being like Mike as anybody, but you can't make the comparisons anymore. Tracy McGrady can probably, from a numbers standpoint, put up the numbers Michael Jordan put up. He has that type of ability. Dirk Nowitzki can put up those kinds of numbers. The game is built for those guys to put those shots up. If they get touched, they get to the foul line. I would say Kobe is the most polished of all of them as far as being able to handle the ball and create his own shot and opportunity. But this is what the game is going to turn into. Guys are going to start to score 40 points regularly. It may become an average.

I don't think Kobe will get 100. What he did is what like Wilt did, a once in a lifetime experience. Given the fact that he shot a heck of a percentage it could have been better, but I don't think he still could have gotten to 100. It would almost have to be perfect and the game would have to go to overtime. I think a lot of things would have to come into play for him to get that.

With that said, I am sure Phil doesn't want to coach that type of game. It's not his style. I don't expect it to happen again. Phil will probably do everything in his power to make sure it doesn't. I don't think Phil is going to try to promote what Kobe has done more than anything because he has damaged his whole team. You just scored 81 points. Do you need your teammates? Are they going to step up when you need them or are you going to continue to pound them like you've been doing and be selfish just to get some individual accolades?

From a leadership perspective I think Kobe has taken a step back. Look at what he has to live up to now. You just scored 81 points. If you scored 81 points, your team should pretty much go out and win at least 75 percent of their games the rest of the year. Is that fair to say? You just compared yourself to Wilt. Can you go out with your team and do that or are you just going to go out and score tons of points every night? Are you going to get back to the point where you are shooting a lot of shots and you're teammates are not shooting and you're losing?

Right now, Kobe has willed the Lakers to a 22-19 record. It will be interesting to see what happens the rest of the way.

my country is the world and my religion is to do good
