Hugh Jackman said he is "heartbroken" that the latest X-Men movie was leaked on the internet and hopes the culprit will be caught. Jackman, who not only stars in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but also produced it via his company Seed Productions, said he was upset for everyone involved in the movie that an unfinished version was posted online last week almost a month before its launch.
"It was heartbreaking for everyone involved in the film. We worked so hard. For that to happen I mean it is crime, it is a very very serious crime," Jackman, who plays the fictional Marvel Comics superhero Wolverine, said.
"It's a serious crime and there's no doubt it's very disappointing - I was heartbroken by it," he told a news conference after he earlier zoomed in by helicopter to an event in Sydney Harbour to promote the film.
The leak sent production company 20th Century Fox into a spin as it tried to stop one of the year's most anticipated movies being spoiled. Fox News columnist Roger Friedman was fired after posting a review of the pirated movie.
Jackman said he was heartened by the fact that most of the online community condemned the leak, and he was confident that the culprit would be caught.
The film is a prequel to the three X-Men movies and is described as the first chapter in the saga, in which Wolverine is united with other legends of the X-Men universe in a revolution that pits the mutants against forces determined to eliminate them.
