Caligdong,Younghusband deliver big in Azkals' 2-0 AFC win vs Mongolia

Air Force personnel Emil Caligdong came through with a brilliant play in the first half then Phil Younghusband capped the Philipine Azkals’ performance by striking a goal down the stretch, towing the Pinoys to a 2-0 victory over Mongolia Wednesday night in their AFC Challenge Cup match at the packed Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

Caligdong scored the first goal for the Azkals in the 42nd minute. The midfielder called by his peers as “Chieffy" eluded his defender then delivered the first point between the legs of the Mongolian goalie to the delight of the hometown crowd.

Younghusband, easily one of the most popular booters on the Azkals side, wasn’t contented killing the time away.

As the clock ticked the 93rd minute, the part-time model struck one right in between a more relaxed Mongolian defense that all but sealed the win for the Azkals.

The 2-0 victory by the Filipinos give the Azkals enough cushion as they travel to Mongolia before their Feb. 16 encounter. Mongolia plays host against the Philippines in their second encounter by virtue of the home-and-away format of this event. - Rey Joble, GMA News

Superb goal from Caligdong, akala ko si Berbatov yung pinanonood ko kanina nung nakagoal sya.  Ito talaga yung isa sa Azkals na meron talagang skill na nakakabilib lalo na sa pagdribble at pag evade sa defense.

I hope they can do the same and perform even better kapag ang kalaban nila ay yung mas mataas na ang ranking sa kanila.

I did not like the gesture of the Azkal player who put a no-no finger on the face of a mongolian player. I assume its Araneta based on your comments above.

I salute the Azkals as a team, ganda ng mga pasa nila above the ground. Medyo kulang pa sa hasa ang plays nila. But one thing na nakita ko sa kanila para silang si Manny Pacquiao nung nagsisimula pa lang sa boksing. Medyo wild ang plays pero nakakapasok rin. And di ako magtataka if they will go up the ranks of euro players.

I also salute the support of our fellow countrymen although wala pa tayong stadium na sinlaki ng pang world cup pero pinuno natin ang venue.

Isa pa, ngayon lang ako nakakita ng game event na pinag laanan ng fireworks dito sa pinas (except for the international events). Nagpapakita lang ito na malayo pa mararating ng football sa Pinas.

Ganda nang pinakita nang Azkals. I just hope mag tuloy-tuloy ang supporta not only to the Azkals but to the sport as well. I'm also happy to say that kahit ang dami nang fil-foreign sa team, the 1st goal was shot by a Pinoy. And a marvelous shot as well which showed Chieffy Caligdong's superb skill. Ang dami rin nyang crosses na nasayang kase walang tao, un-marked pa naman ang area. Maganda yung attacking game nang Azkals. The forward passes and the crosses where very good, maganda lang din talaga ang defense nang Mongolia. May mga lapses konti sa defense (lousy passes) but i think i was just poor communication between players. Football really is a lovely game. Keeps you on the edge for a full 90 minutes. And somtimes surprises happens on the 93'rd minute.  Very nice game showed by the Azkals. Can't wait for the Mongolia leg.

i'm not really a fan of football. but when my co-worker (a fanatic and a player) shows me the highlights of the game...i'm really amazed by their kicks. freakin' awesome!!!

I'm really happy that Football or Soccer is making a big splash in Philippine sports. Alam niyo, since 19-Kupong Kupong pa sinasabi sa atin ng sports experts na sa SOCCER lang or BASEBALL puwedeng maging successful ang Pinoy sa International team sport. Matagal na pong sinasabi sa atin na kalimutan na natin ang Basketball since our players are a FOOT shorter than the average ball player in their respective positions! 

Soccer is one sport that doesn't require height as an advantage. The Koreans are Japanese have had great success in the sport. I really just hope na hindi rin ito magiging "USO". Gaya ng nangyari sa Badminton.
