MANILA, Philippinesâ€â€ÂMalacañang has declared Feb. 15, Monday, a special non-working holiday in Parañaque in celebration of that Manila suburb’s 12th anniversary as a city.
Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. said the holiday covers both local government and private sector employees, public and private schools, and other establishments in the city.
He said that the city received its charter on Feb. 13, which falls on a Saturday this year. The Palace moved the holiday to Monday in line with its holiday economics policy.
Among the events lined up by the city government for the celebration are a food festival at City Hall and a performance by the drum and lyre ensemble of Tambo Elementary School and Barangay San Antonio on Friday.
The city’s 16 barangays will have a float parade at 2 p.m. Friday from Baclaran to SM Sucat with City Hall awarding the top three floats at 6 p.m.
A free concert featuring South Border, Shamrock and K Brosas will be held at the open space at SM Sucat. A fireworks display later in the evening will cap the day’s festivities.
