Ilocos Norte exec hurt in pre-dawn ambush

Philstar.com - Monday, December 28SendIM StoryPrint.MANILA, Philippines – A provincial government official of Ilocos Norte was wounded after unidentified gunmen strafed his convoy before dawn today, police reported.

Provincial board member Robert Castro sustained a shrapnel wound during the ambush, according to Police Senior Superintendent Benjamin Lusad, police provincial director of Ilocos Norte.

Two barangay chairmen were with Castro during the ambush, Lusad added.

In a radio interview, Lusad said Castro's convoy was passing through Bgy. San Esteban in Dingras town, Ilocos Norte, around 1 a.m. when armed men fired on the vehicles.

Authorities recovered from the scene empty shells of M-16 assault rifles.

Lusad said it is too early to tell if the shooting was politically motivated or not since investigators are still collating pieces of evidence. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

may kulang sa report... sa npanood ko sa TV kagabi... one of the Brgy. Captains who were with the convoy will be running as MAyor of Dingras Town. ..
