the problem not only here but in all our main thoroughfares is that there is no single "reason" and no single "solution"...
reason
a. lack or urban planning - small roads, lack of alternative routes etc.
b. overpopulation of vehicles
c. lack of vehicle phaseout
d. unreliable mass transportation system
e. discipline of drivers - road courtesy, lack of knowledge or disregard of traffic rules and regulations and commission system at the public utility vehicle company
f. discipline of pedestrians - they know they are not allowed in roads and sidewalks and yet they sell their wares and products in there
f. discipline of commuters - they wait, embark and disembark in any areas that they want, even when there are fences in that area
g. lack of discipline, training and traffic management for enforcers
solutions
a. control vehicle population which will include vehicle phaseout - this is a huge task and will require a thorough planning and implementation
b. improve mass transportation system - metro train systems, public utility systems and train system
c. re educate all drivers both private and public sector
d. re educate all traffic management enforcers
there is no easy solution to all of the problems since the biggest part is infrastructure in nature.. but installing discipline to all public and private sectors will be a big step... also making the traffic management personnel professional in nature will also be a big help... we cannot blame a single reason since we at one time or another have also been a part of that reason...
