Austal will soon build US Navy ships in Balamban, Cebu

An Australian shipbuilding company, Austal, will soon build US Navy ships in Balamban town, west Cebu.

The operation will generate at least 2,000 jobs in the town, said Cebu Provincial Board Member Alex Binghay, who is Balamban’s former mayor.

Austal, which manufactures aluminum-hulled vessels, has started developing a part of the site of FBMA Marine Inc, an Aboitiz-owned shipbuilding plant inside the West Cebu Industrial Park in Balamban.

Binghay said Austal signed a $10-billion contract with the United States Navy to build military support ships and would sign an agreement with the municipality of Balamban within two months for the formal operation of the firm in Cebu.

He said this would be a “big investment” for the town.

It would be nice if the knowhow and techniques they learn building US navy ships ... will be applied to building Phil navy ships also

yaykz..But there is a possibility based on previous news, the US, in behalf of RP, is looking for designs of naval vessels. But again, it is a wild guess. But the mayor of Balamban town is a very reliable source of info. Let us watch and wait.  :D :D

In order to get the initial working capital, what they should do is get an Omnibus Credit Line from either DBP or LBP against their receivables from BCDA.  Anyway, yun perang kita ng BCDA ay nailaan naman para sa modernization ng AFP.  Pwede rin gumawa ng mga bank instruments against those receivables and issue these papers against defense suppliers or military contractors who are willing to impart their technologies under a joint venture arrangement.  Ang kailangan lang naman nila ay initial working capital.  Hence, we would be able to manufacture aircraft or seacrafts here and at the same time create jobs. At pag maganda ang gawa ng Patrol Craft dito halimbawa eh pwede naman export sa India, Vietnam, Brunei or even Indonesia.  Marami rin yan support industries.

Another way to raise money is to sell the present site of Camp Aguinaldo.  Anyway, wala naman yatang military camp in other parts of the world na nasa gitna mismo ng city proper.  Pwede naman ilipat ang site ng camp sa Norzagaray or sa Remedios Trinidad coz dun yata ang dulo ng planong MRT.  Pwede din ibenta ang site ng Sangley Point as well as the present site of the National Penitentiary.
